Institutions>Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK)

The Jawahar Kala Kendra at Jaipur is a multi arts centre set up as a hub for arts and artistic activities. It is a centre that enables a conjunction of the classical and folk traditions of Rajasthan, aimed to ensure both continuity and innovation.

The Kendra focuses on the preservation and promotion of the various genres of Rajasthani art and culture, and embellishes further the visual and cultural heritage of the region. It has a well endowed documentation section (library and audio-visual division) containing a vast range of publications on theatre, fine arts and music, which attracts scholars and art connoisseurs. Throughout the year, JKK organizes cultural activities in its premises which include seminars, workshops, dance and music recitals, theatre shows, and publication of books on art and culture. The permanent ethnographical art gallery, called the Alankar Museum, depicts the tangible and intangible heritage of Rajasthan through a vast range of artifacts exhibited here. Six exhibition galleries provide space for art exhibitions and many artists of international repute have showcased their creations here. There are both open-air as well as air-conditioned theatres for live performances by folk singers and dancers. Adjoining the main building of the JKK is Shilpgram- a complex with six huts symbolizing the rural ambience of the various regions of Rajasthan, viz. Marwar, Braj, Shekhawati, Tribal, Desert land and Hadoti. Apart from the regular art-culture activities, a mega annual festival named Lok Rang (National Folk Festival) is held in the month of October–November to celebrate folk art and cultural traditions of India. The Lok Rang also has a National Handicraft Fair and National Dance Festival held around it.
