Gaatha-A tale of crafts
The 'Gaatha' project was conjured at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad Gijarat to play that key role of storytelling, and therewith bringing social and commercial benefits to the artisan settlements.
Gaatha aspires to be the instrument though which the artisans can directly connect with the global audience, desire to be the resource which helps craft sell not as objects but stories and ideologies. They are vying to make not just 'sales' but 'dialogues' between the craftsmen and their patrons, encouraging 'co-creation' possibilities and a collective growth. They are committed to keeping all the good practices intact and all processes humane, just and ecologically balanced. Above all, want to identify and recognize the faceless artisan.
Gaatha project also has a blog, which is actually a very rich and interesting resource that documents the craft traditions in India both visually as well as otherwise. It intends to find innovative ways to illuminate readers about the various arts and crafts found in the different regions of the country by telling stories and starting conversations.
