The Birla Academy of Art and Culture was established in 1966. This eleven storied museum was established to promote the visual and performing arts and to provide a platform for upcoming and established artists; and to preserve the cultural heritage of the country. The museum has a rare collection of 500 International and 4500 Indian paintings. The Academy boasts of an excellent collection of 4273 books on the world's art and culture which can be accessed without any charge. Festivals and exhibitions are held in the museum to bring together contemporary artists for discussions and for displaying their work. The Annual Exhibition, which is held in January, brings together 1000- 1200 artists. The exhibition showcases artists from the point of view of established, less renowned and upcoming. There are exhibitions in sculpture, drawing, wood print and other areas.
Swar Sangam is a training school in music, painting and dancing which is attached to the museum. Several hundred students have been trained in the fine arts by reputed and revered teachers - all dedicated artisans. Every month, a talk on different aspects of arts is delivered by the Director, T.K. Biswas. An Arts Appreciation Certificate Course is conducted each year from June to August.
