Institutions > Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi

Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi was established in 1958 through the pioneering efforts of the first elected Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri EMS Namboorthiripad, as a government agency to encourage, document and preserve the rich legacy of the varied art forms of Kerala. Its activities include organizing arts festivals, conducting amateur and professional drama competitions, providing grants to arts clubs and institutions and providing financial assistance to artists. It has been organizing innovative programmes like a folk festival of Kerala (Attam), theatre festival involving eight states of India (Octave) and an Asian Theatre Festival. It publishes rare and valuable books on various arts, besides a bimonthly journal called Keli. It also has a digital archive of various art forms. It achieves these objectives through interaction and cooperation with like minded institutions like the Sangeetha Natak Akademi of Delhi and others.
