Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum

The Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum is the one-man collection of Padmashree Late Dr. D.G. Kelkar (1896 -1990). 'Kaka', as Dr. Kelkar was affectionately known, dedicated his collection to the memory of his only son `Raja' who died an untimely tragic death. It is a collection about 21,000 priceless artifacts which mirror the everyday life of India.

The collection of treasures include carved doors of old houses, carved projections of windows and balconies, a variety of brass lamps, icons of god, statues, nutcrackers of different intricate forms, musical instruments of different kinds, glass paintings and miniatures of all schools of paintings, chitrakathi paintings, leather puppets, wooden horse and elephants, pandan, chanchi, tast, pipes, hookahs, inkpots, comb, foot-scrubbers, scent-bottle, ivory objects and a number of things of everyday use.

The rebuilding of a section of the Mastani Mahal built by Peshwa Bajirao I, the Gallery of Musical Instruments, a collection of articles connected with feminine world are some of the marvels of Dr. Kelkar's creation.
