Salarjung Museum
The Salarjung Museum is a repository of an unique art collection drawn from the western and far eastern countries. The major portion of this collection was acquired by Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, popularly known as Salarjung III. Few items were inherited. The Museum was declared open to the public in December, 1951.
Besides the art objects, the Museum also houses about twelve thousand rare and valuable manuscripts and aournd fifty thousand printed books in English, Persian, Arabic, Turkish and Urdu languages.
The activities of the Museum include collection, documentation, preservation and interpretation of art-treasurers housed in its collection. To fulfil these objectives, the museum arranges permanent and temporary exhibitions, undertakes researches, brings out publications and also conducts a number of academic and cultural programmes for the benefit of public.
