Zonal Cultural Centres

The seven Zonal Cultural Centres set up by the Ministry of Culture have been instrumental in providing support to artists, especially to folk artists, for showcasing their work with the objective of the promotion and dissemination of these art forms. The essential thrust of these centres has been to create cultural awareness among people and to identify, nurture and promote the vanishing folk art traditions in the rural and semi-urban areas of the states. The ZCCs regularly organise theatre shows, art exhibitions, handicraft fairs, performances of dance and music and are also involved in documentation and research. A large database of folk art forms exists with the Centres. Centrally sponsored schemes of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India are implemented nationally by the ZCCs.
